Waqar Zaka files petition to lift PUBG ban

Since the decision of authorities in Pakistan to ban the world famous e-gaming craze PUBG, there has been a lot of opposition on the social media to unban the game. The social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are flooded with #unbanpubg and #PTAliftpubgban etc since the banning decision.  However, it is for the first time that someone made a legal move against the ban. Yes, the voice against the ban has been taken to court.

Pakistani TV host and media person Waqar Zaka, who has been known for a lot earlier; has filed a petition in court to lift PUBG ban. He has challenged  Pakistan’s temporary ban on the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) in the Sindh High Court recently.

The stance adopted in the petition was that e-gaming especially PUBG has been a source of earning for the youngsters of Pakistan who have been utilizing their professional gaming skills to make livelihood. Also, that the decision of banning the game will affect negatively the e-sports business in Pakistan which was growing positively.

No doubt the stance adopted by the host is realistic as in this era of digital war, the Pakistani youth has talented gems who have excelled in the e-sports and e-earning platforms. They have not only benefited themselves but the country's image and economy too. As an example the youngster Arsalan Ash represented Pakistan in the Japanese e-gaming championship and won the ' World Champion' title in Tekken 7 game.

There are a lot of PUBG gamers in Pakistan who play and stream this game which helps them earn. They also earn through participating in competitions and highlight country's talent and good image.

The hearing and decision of the petition is still ahead and we have to see what comes. However, there have been rumors that government is already considering un-banning PUBG. The move has been appreciated and hailed positively by the Pakistani gamers especially youngsters on social media as the act has been a sigh of relief and hope that their voice is being heard and supported.
